New Sod

First 2 weeks

It is essential that you water your new sod properly for the first month. You should thoroughly water immediately after the sod is in place. The water should reach a depth of at least 4 to 6 inches. For the first one to two weeks the new sod should be watered 3 to 5 times a day. During the first week is it is very important to keep the sod damp. If the sod dries out too much then it will brown out and die. You can lift a corner of the sod to check for moisture. It is also important to keep off the sod so you don’t leave impressions of footprints behind you. If watered the right way, by the end of week 2 you should be able to mow.

Weeks 3 and 4

The next two weeks you sod should be ready to be watered less frequently. This means fewer cycles per day and watered every other day. In the fourth week you should only water your new sod should be ready to only be watered every two to three days. Make sure you water your lawn in the evening or early morning so the water won’t evaporate.
